D’accord, mais ça n’en fait pas non plus un film exceptionnel à l’arrivée. Juste moyen. Or donc, la princesse Aurora, qui règne sur le royaume de la Lande peuplé de fées, va épouser le prince Philippe qui va hériter du royaume humain. Maléfique, belle-mère d’Aurora, refuse l’union tant mieux, puisque la mère de Philippe, la reine Ingrith, mijote un génocide du peuple fée en loucedé. En même temps, Maléfique Angelina Jolie, toujours productrice, est curieusement peu présente à l’écran va retrouver son peuple de fées ailées et découvrir le mystère de ses origines. La bonne idée est d’avoir fait de Michelle Pfeiffer la grande méchante de ce Pouvoir du mal on suppose que la Mistress of Evil du titre original, c’est elle, une grande méchante militariste qui rompt justement la fatalité des apparences et du character design qui vous enferme dans un destin ; le reste est une histoire de fantasy tellement classique qu’elle aurait pu être écrite par un générateur de synopsis. Le bestiaire est aussi sans grande imagination sauf si vous considérez qu’engager Warwick Davis dans la peau d’un gnome grognon et bricoleur vous semble l’idée du siècle, peu renouvelé par rapport au premier film. Le peuple auquel appartient Maléfique n’est pas une bande d’anges des ténèbres cools mais un gang de rastas à peine badass, sans que cela ne fasse enjeu dans l’histoire à part leur religion ils idolâtrent littéralement un rebondissement du scénario, vous comprendrez en voyant le film. Le Pouvoir du mal ne réussit pas à injecter du chaos dans le jeu des apparences, et le film apparaît comme bien inoffensif. Raboté de ses audaces potentielles, privé de sang dans ses veines. Paradoxal pour un film qui veut justement chambouler l’imaginaire des contes de fée. Reste une très belle image Maléfique obligée de voiler ses cornes de noir pour ne pas choquer lors d’un dîner officiel. Le tissu lui donne alors l’allure d’une dame des ténèbres surgie d’une miniature d’un livre d’heures médiéval cauchemardée. C’est beau, mais c’est peu, c’est tout le temps moyen et c’est bien dommage, parce que Disney possède les forces vives nécessaires pour faire un film de conte de fées qui ne soit ni en pilote automatique ni en crash test WTF le joli conte de fantasy Casse-noisettes et les quatre royaumes, passé inaperçu l’an dernier et co-réalisé par Joe Johnston Rocketeer, Captain America, possédait beaucoup plus de charme, d’originalité et de style. Non, décidément, Maléfique Le Pouvoir du mal n’est pas un mauvais film, il est juste réalisé comme ça.
